TUSCANY | CHIANTI | FIGLINE – Historic Complex
This rural estate of great historical and environmental value, not subject to ministerial restrictions, is located in the hills southwest of Figline, on the way toward the Chianti area.
The property consists of five buildings, each with distinctive architectural features and original functions:
Building A (810 sqm) – the main structure, located directly in front of the entrance road, arranged over three above-ground floors plus a basement. It is the oldest and most significant part of the complex, the result of construction stratification between the 14th and 20th centuries, originally serving as the farmhouse of the estate.
Building B (326 sqm) – the barn, situated on the left as you enter the driveway, with two above-ground floors not connected internally.
Building C (27 sqm) – the former burraia (butter cellar), entirely underground with only the entrance façade visible. Originally a spring, it was later transformed into a burraia over the centuries.
Building D (27 sqm) – an accessory structure, consisting of a single room used as a storage space.
Building E (52 sqm) – an accessory building made up of two adjoining units, originally used as storage and pigsty.
Historical background
The origins of this property date back to the 14th century, when, around 1326, it was documented as a farm with farmhouse, land, a hut, and a threshing floor. In the early 15th century, the estate expanded into two holdings and became part of the possessions of a local noble family, who also built a manor house for country stays. From the 16th century, the complex came under the ownership of the Ospedale degli Innocenti of Florence, which retained it until relatively recent times.
Current condition and land
Today, the estate still retains the charm of its past, although the buildings are now in a completely ruined state. Surrounding the complex is agricultural land extending to approximately 9.7 hectares, divided into 2.9 hectares of woodland and 6.7 hectares of cultivated, productive fields.
Location
The property is nestled in the countryside around Figline, overlooking the gentle rolling hills that lead toward Chianti, in a landscape of exceptional beauty and charm.
